Coke Quality & Carbonisation
Small scale and pilot scale cokemaking services with complimentary coke testing facilities including Reactivity Testing and the full suite of drum indices. ALS Coal has internationally recognised expertise and has provided coking coal services to coal producers and consumers for over 30 years. We have conducted in excess of 3000 pilot scale coke tests on a large number of coals from around the globe. Test work can be undertaken on coal samples supplied from bore cores, operating mines, coal preparation plants and superintending samples. We also offer interpretative services which include a technical evaluation report which evaluates the potential utilisation performance of a coking coal through laboratory and pilot scale testwork.

Combustion
ALS Coal has internationally recognised expertise and facilities for the evaluation of thermal coal combustion behaviour and the optimisation of coal combustion processes. Testwork has been undertaken on coals supplied from borecores, current mines, coal preparation plants, superintending samples and power plant stockpiles. Since its formation, we have conducted more than 250 technical investigations on thermal coals from Australia and around the world. Technical investigations usually include pilot scale testwork complemented with an interpretative, comprehensive assessment of the expected performance of the thermal coal in a power station boiler.

Petrography
ALS Coal can provide high quality and timely petrographic analysis on coal and it's utilisation products, from exploration to end use via our certified petrographic laboratory. All ALS Petrographers have achieved accreditation from the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology. We make use of unique validation tools and state of the art equipment to ensure results are of the highest quality. ALS Coal offers traditional petrography services such as reflectance and maceral analysis as well as more advanced services such as interpretive reports and coke micro-texture analysis.

Coal Preparation Consulting
The ALS Coal Technology Pilot Coal Preparation Plant, located at the Maitland NSW site, is the only commercially available pilot scale plant in Australia and services global requirements. The facility offers our customers preparation plant design verification, process condition simulation and modelling, washability of coal and bulk product generation. ALS Coal Technology hosts the Coal Quality Skills Centre (CQSC), a joint government and industry funded centre of excellence in providing a dedicated facility for training in Coal Handling and Coal Preparation.
